How to make a solar oven

This question about how to make one good solar oven comes back to me each and every day from people wanting to know more and more about it, even if I have already posted about it.

Let’s see, a few ideas, without going into details:

So, how we can make a solar oven?

First thing you need to do is come up with a big box that you can use for the main body of the cooker.

Then, the second thing you need to do is come up with a smaller box that fits inside the main one, to let some space around it. Put aluminium foil on the inner side of these boxes, let the top of the first one open to act as a reflector and orient the top sides this way that the sun light comes right inside the box.

In order to work well, use a black pot, not a shiny one since shiny boxes reflect light and in this case this is the last thing we would like to do, to reflect light. Put the black pot in a plastic bag that you can use as a temperature bag.

Use the glass from a window to close the top of the boxes, to keep warm air inside and concentrate the light of the sun.

So, for making a good solar energy powered oven you don’t need much. You can do all these with the materials you have around the house, with a bit of plastic, aluminium foil, the glass from a small window and a black pot and a paper bag. Not an expensive oven, I would say!

All these being said and done, you should know now how to make your own solar oven, so go on and start working on it!
